The Core Values of Mission of Love Charities are:
Mission of Love Charities, Inc., was founded in 1991, and since its inception, it has provided services to more than 400,000 individuals and families in our community. Over the years, it has expanded its programs and services to fill gaps in services needed in our community. Our programs and services focus on providing basic needs and crisis assistance to low-income individuals and families who meet or are below the 150% federal poverty guideline and are either homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless. Mission of Love Charities programs and services address the issues contributing to homelessness and help individuals and families by providing basic needed items and support.
Our basic needs, crisis assistance and homeless services programs help low-income or homeless individuals and families stretch limited household incomes by providing essential items such as food, financial assistance for housing costs, clothing and furniture. We also provide employability training and computer access. Additionally, we provide mental health and behavior health referrals. We also provide education about the benefits of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP) Program provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture., otherwise known as Food Stamps, and we help clients complete and submit applications for food assistance.
Mission of Love Charities, Inc., operates a food pantry, which is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and provides free food for homeless and low-income individuals and families.
In 2020, Mission of Love Charities, Inc, launched a renovated Workforce Development, Education and Training Center. The Center provides employability skills training, basic computer classes, financial workshops, goal setting, and classes leading to certification as a Meetings Planner, an OSHA Inspector, a Certified Nursing Assistant and a Water Treatment Technician. The plan is for the Workforce Development, Education and Training Center to be located in a newly renovated and rebuilt abandoned school building across the street from the current Mission of Love Charities facility.
Mission of Love Charities, Inc., hosts several annual events that are outreach opportunities for the clients we serve. Included among these events is a Back-To-School Community Event in late August, which provides free backpacks and school supplies to children in need, as well as a wellness clinic, free food, free hairstyling, and free facials. During the Thanksgiving holiday, free turkeys and other food items are distributed to qualified individuals and families, and during Christmas free toys are distributed to children of qualified families.
Mission of Love Charities continues to reach out and develop collaborative partnerships with other community organizations with similar missions and goals. It also continues to pursue an aggressive fundraising and marketing operation that has been successful in garnering support from Prince George’s County, the State of Maryland, and others, as well as from private donors and foundations, such as the Brin Family Foundation, the Greater Washington Community Foundation and the Philip Graham Fund.
Mission of Love Charities, Inc., depends on the efforts of many volunteers who assist with the work of the organization on a daily basis.
