Mission of Love Charities (MOLC) was recently selected by Giant Foods as an organization included in Bloomin’ 4 Good. This charitable giving program is a community partnership with the Floral Department of the Giant Foods store in District Heights, Maryland and MOLC.
Every time a shopper at Giant Foods purchases a floral bouquet with a purple tag, one dollar is donated to Mission of Love Charities. The Bloomin’4 Good program is designed to fight hunger in local communities by partnering with organizations that donate food to needy individuals and families. “We just wanted to create this program to support the community. We are happy to have MOLC involved and Giant Food supporting them. It’s really rewarding to know that by helping local organizations we’re helping people in need of food,” said Melissa Hansen, Program Manager of Bloomin’ 4 Good at Giant Foods.
The Bloomin’ 4 Good program was created on July 1, 2021 to assist in alleviating hunger by helping families in need of food. MOLC is just one organization in the area that benefits from this program. Other organizations selected for the Bloomin’ 4 Good program are: Marshall Heights Community Development Organization’s Senior Brown Bag program, The D.C Dream Center Food Program, Pennsylvania Avenue Seventh Day Adventist Church, Food Pantry in Capitol Heights, Helping Hands Food Pantry of the Second Baptist Church Southwest, Maryland Food Bank, Capitol Area Food Bank and Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. Like MOLC, all of these organizations are distributing food to low-income families and individuals.
The store manager at Giant Foods in District Heights, Bobby, recommended MOLC as an organization for the Bloomin’ 4 Good program. MOLC has a well-known food pantry, which is the only one in the area that is open five days per week. The floral manager, Jasmine, is also instrumental in helping to get the word out about the Bloomin’ 4 Good program.
“Food insecurity is on the rise,” says Deborah Martinez, CEO of Mission of Love Charities. “That’s why this partnership with Giant Foods is so important. Bloomin’ 4 Good helps us serve a large community of people in need,” she added.
Since its inception in July of 2021 the Bloomin’ 4 Good program has helped over 500 organizations that fight hunger. It has donated over $200,000 to these organizations – so 200,000 bouquets with a purple tag have been sold.
“We try to find local organizations to benefit from this program,” said Hansen. “At each Giant Foods location we find the local organization that impacts the community,” she added. Since MOLC has an impact on its local community as an organization that fights food insecurity, it is a great match for Bloomin’ 4 Good.
