The First Annual Community Health Fair will be hosted by Mission of Love Charities (MOLC) on April 22nd from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at 5720 Addison Road in Seat Pleasant, Maryland. The location was chosen because it is less than a mile from MOLC and there are a lot of underserved individuals in this neighborhood. One of the key aspects of life is lacking in the homeless community – and that’s proper healthcare. The Health Fair will address healthcare issues for people and offer a means to treat people for basic healthcare needs.
All of this is made possible by community partners and sponsors, both vital for the event to serve the community. “Partners who wanted to participate help homeless and underserved populations,” said Greg Torrence, Director of Outreach for MOLC.
CCI Health Services will offer COVID Booster shots to this population. SLK Health Services Corporation will provide HIV testing and DXT Therapeutic will offer behavioral and mental health screenings. YNN Dental Wellness will give dental health screenings to children. Gheen Service Inc. will be conducting blood pressure screenings. Greater Baden Medical Services will speak to adults about overall health issues. Each of these community partners provides a unique service for health and wellness for the individual.
Community partners will be on hand to provide other services at the Community Health Fair, too. N’ Style Hair Grooming will come out on a Saturday, their busiest day, to provide free haircuts. The Solid Foundation will be there to give out resources to those who were formerly incarcerated and are now in re-entry into the community. GATCCS (Seniors Against Domestic Violence) will give out educational information and resources to those in need. Employ Prince George’s will offer job resources and opportunities to those interested. Each of the community sponsors is providing much needed services to underserved communities. Sponsor participation ensures that costs for the Health Fair are controlled while providing the extra support that is needed.
As a way to say thank you for their attendance, AVENEL is providing lunch to all of the vendors – a nice gesture.
“We have no idea what the participation will be however, our goal is to provide hope to a community that has been overlooked,” said Deborah Martinez, CEO of MOLC.
