Imagine a Day Without Water – It’s Reality for Many of the People Served by Mission of Love Charities

All of the people served by Mission of Love Charities are homeless or very low-income. This means that many of them face days when they do not have access to water – to drink, to wash themselves or their things, to cook food or even to flush the toilet.
How does one cope with this? How does a family cope with this?
On October 20, we will welcome people who need water for basic necessities – as we do Monday through Friday, every week of the year.
This is a grim reality for people who do not have the economic basis to sustain their lives. Many of these people come to Mission of Love Charities for help. Often, we are able to give them water to drink, access to showers, and access to a washer and dryer. But that is just for that day. And what about tomorrow? And the days after that?
And lack of water is only one component in the many threats to the daily lives and the dignity of the individuals who find themselves in this predicament.
Sure, there are places like Mission of Love Charities who can offer help. Sure, there are government programs that provide basic sustenance. But when you’re out on the streets, faced with innumerable challenges of daily living for yourself and your family, you often find yourself frozen with depression and the inability to cope.
Mission of Love Charities is one resource in Prince George’s County and surrounding communities that offers help for people who find themselves in this quandary. We do provide help. But the solution to getting people out of this spiral of hopelessness requires resources beyond what we offer.
Organizations, government agencies and people need to come together to provide a safety net for these people who find themselves in deep trouble.
And although the effect of the pandemic is beginning to subside, the economic distress not only continues but increases among these people.
On October 20, we will welcome people who need water for basic necessities – as we do Monday through Friday, every week of the year. Mission of Love Charities looks forward to working with the Water Alliance and others in finding ways to help these individuals, families and children who deserve the dignity of the basic necessities of life.
