This year’s annual toy drive will be different from the past. This year, the number of children in need has increased dramatically, to nearly 400 children. Mission of Love Charities is prepared to help the additional children in need – with help from the community. This year, there will be toy donation boxes in public places, in addition to accepting donations at Mission of Love Charities.
Anyone can donate new toys for the Toy Drive. It’s a simple as dropping off new toys to the Mission of Love Charities location, at 6180 Old Central Avenue in Capitol Heights, Maryland from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday or 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Friday. Mission of Love Charities staff will be there to receive the donations of toys for children. Donations are being accepted November 1st through December 15th.
For those who want the convenience of donating toys after hours or on Saturday or Sunday, the public drop-offs for donations are in several locations. Donation sites are N’ Style Barber & Salon in Bowie and Capitol Heights, Maryland, Pohanka Honda in Capitol Heights, Maryland, and Cort Furniture in Captiol Heights, Maryland.
Other private businesses in the Capitol Heights region are also offering drop off boxes for the Toy Drive as a way of increasing donations this year.
Community donations and involvement in the Toy Drive are so important to its’ success. In addition to staff, volunteers from the Prince George’s County Jack and Jill Inc. membership will distribute toys on Monday, November 28th from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. The office team from Stanley Martin Homes will also be present to help give out toys to children in need.
Adenia Bradley is the Chief Operating Officer of Mission of Love Charities, and she is coordinating many aspects of the Toy Drive and the Toy Giveaway on November 28th. “It’s really a wonderful thing that Mission of Love Charities is able to help kids in need each year,” said Bradley. “The number of families needing toys for their children has increased dramatically. Sometimes families have to go without. To put a smile on a child’s face is so rewarding,” added Bradley.
